Course Profile
Course Aims
The main aims of this course are to:
- Introduce participants to the concepts, practices and application of asset management and their implications for the optimized management of physical assets;
- Provide an overview of PAS 55 requirements for physical asset management and how these apply to the organisation;
- Review options and good industry practice for asset management planning and for implementation of optimized plans over asset life cycles;
- Show how these can be integrated with a business management system to align with other requirements including management system standards, relevant specifications and regulatory requirements.
By the end of this course, participants will have an understanding of:
- The importance and structure of asset management systems;
- The principles and main requirements of PAS 55 for the optimal management of physical assets;
- Concepts tools and techniques of asset management and how these are applied to physical assets and asset systems, their performance, risks and expenditures over their life cycles;
- How asset management policy, strategy(ies), objectives and plans can be optimized and applied across asset life cycles;
- Options for implementation of asset management plans including the use of direct labour and outsourced service providers;
- The opportunities and benefits for implementing operational asset management effectively and for integrating asset management with other management controls.
Learning Approach
This interactive course includes participative activities that draw on the experience and knowledge of the participants. It involves slides, discussion and involvement in practical sessions to develop understanding in a natural and interesting way.
Participants do not need to have any previous knowledge of PAS 55 or other management system models. However if they have attended Introduction To Asset Management, this will be taken account of in the course delivery.

Session 1 Physical assets and the business
In this session we identify:

The asset management policy
The physical assets portfolio
Asset types, groupings and systems
Asset life cycles
Session 2 Strategy, objectives and plans
In this session we explore long term strategies and plans that are aligned with the organisational strategic plan:
Asset management strategy
Asset related risks and asset criticality
Strategy options: risk, condition, reliability, whole life cost, asset health indices
Performance, expenditure and risk
Asset management objectives and plans
Optimization
Contingency planning
Session 3 Structures and controls
In this part of the course we are going to cover:
Structures for a life cycle approach
Outsourcing arrangements and options
Competence, awareness and safe control of operations
Risk management
Change management
Integration with existing BMS processes, management controls and interfaces i.e. quality, risk, safety, environmental, financial etc
Session 4 Implementation of asset management plans
In this session we identify good practice for the implementation of asset management plans and the control of activities across asset life cycles:
Overview of life cycle activities
Implementing plans
Course resources
All training documents and delegate materials are provided during the course.
A certificate will be issued to each delegate after completion of the course.
